Awaken the Giant Within

by Tony Robbins

Robbins' second major book is a system for changing beliefs, values and emotional habits, with exercises on decisions, pain-and-pleasure leverage, questions and 'transformational vocabulary.' It is enormous and uneven, but the chapters on the questions you habitually ask yourself and on the language you use for emotions are practical and effective.

Read it if…

you want a comprehensive personal-change workbook and do not mind the volume.

Skip it if…

you want precision and brevity; neither is here.

Three things you will actually use

  1. Change your questions and you change your focus.
  2. Link massive pain to the old pattern and pleasure to the new.
  3. Raise your standards; the rest follows.

Do this first

Write the three questions you ask yourself most on bad days and rewrite each into a better one.

Our verdict

Huge, enthusiastic, and useful in parts; mine it rather than read it.
