Death by Meeting
by Patrick Lencioni
A fable followed by a model: meetings are boring because they lack drama and ineffective because they mix types. Lencioni prescribes four: the daily check-in, the weekly tactical, the monthly strategic and the quarterly off-site, with conflict mined on purpose. It is practical and has fixed many calendars.
Read it if…
your meetings are long, dull and resolve nothing.
Skip it if…
you work alone; it is for teams.
Three things you will actually use
- Different meetings for different purposes.
- Mine for conflict; it is the drama that engages.
- Clarity at the end: who does what by when.
Do this first
Separate tactical and strategic topics into different meetings this week.
Our verdict
Practical and effective.
