Einstein: His Life and Universe
by Walter Isaacson
Isaacson's biography of Einstein as a person: the rebellious student, the patent clerk who rethought space and time, the fame, the politics, the failed marriages and the long, unsuccessful search for a unified theory. It is readable, humane and good on how imagination and stubbornness produced the work.

Three things you will actually use
- Imagination is more important than knowledge.
- Question the assumptions everyone has stopped seeing.
- Stubbornness serves until it does not.
