Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway
by Susan Jeffers
Jeffers' 1987 book is about moving through fear rather than waiting for it to leave: fear never fully goes, everyone feels it, and the only way to feel better about yourself is to act. The exercises are simple, the tone is supportive and the message has not aged. One of the gentler, more durable books on the subject.
Read it if…
you wait to feel confident before acting and have been waiting a long time.
Skip it if…
you want research; it is experience-based and from another era.
Three things you will actually use
- Expect fear; it means growth, not danger.
- Move from pain to power by taking responsibility.
- Say yes to your universe: whatever happens, you can handle it.
Do this first
Do one small thing today that you have avoided because it scares you, and notice you survived.
Our verdict
Kind and timeless; still the right book for the fearful starter.
