The 8th Habit
by Stephen R. Covey
Covey's late book adds an eighth habit, find your voice and inspire others to find theirs, and applies it to leadership in the knowledge age. It is long and sprawls, and the core idea could have been an essay. The sections on the whole person, body, mind, heart, spirit, and on trim-tab leadership are the best.
Read it if…
you are a Covey devotee and want his final major statement.
Skip it if…
you have not read The 7 Habits; this depends on it and is less essential.
Three things you will actually use
- Find your voice; then help others find theirs.
- Lead from wherever you are; be the trim tab.
- Engage the whole person, including your own.
Do this first
Write what your 'voice' is: the intersection of talent, passion, need and conscience.
Our verdict
Earnest and overlong; for completists.
