Unlimited Power

by Tony Robbins

Robbins' first big book is really two books: a readable one about state, focus and modeling the behavior of people who already succeed, and a shakier one about neuro-linguistic programming that has not aged well. Read the first for the practical idea that physiology and focus change feeling faster than willpower does; treat the second as period color.

Read it if…

you want high-energy techniques for shifting mood and momentum quickly and can skim the jargon.

Skip it if…

you prefer evidence over enthusiasm; several claims here are asserted rather than shown.

Three things you will actually use

  1. Change the body to change the state.
  2. Copy the specific actions of someone who already gets the result.
  3. Ask better questions; the mind answers whatever you ask it.

Do this first

Before the next hard task, stand up, change your posture and breathing for sixty seconds, then start.

Our verdict

Big, uneven and energetic; useful in parts, best read with a skeptical pencil.
