Ten quiet minutes a day builds the muscle that bad days test.

The problem it solves

Meditating on a chair or the floor leads to slumping, numb legs and an excuse to stop at four minutes.

What it is

A firm round or crescent cushion, usually buckwheat-filled, that lifts the hips above the knees so the spine stays upright without effort. Often paired with a flat mat.

Who it is for

Anyone starting a sitting practice, people with tight hips, and those who want a dedicated spot that says this is where I sit.

How to use it so it sticks

Put the cushion in a corner you see every morning. Sit for five minutes before coffee. Add a minute a week. The cushion is the cue; the corner is the habit.

Who should skip it

If you meditate lying down or walking, or you already sit comfortably cross-legged, you do not need one.

Verdict

A small purchase that removes the physical excuse. The corner matters as much as the cushion.
